Not leaving until early next year but thinking ahead as always. Any suggestions, hints, tips, advice etc on our tentative itinerary? We’re not young anymore so don’t want to do too much driving in any one day or more than a 3 hour hike. We’re more about relaxing, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing the views
Day 1-2: Monday afternoon arrive in Christchurch. Stay in bach in CBD. Acclimatise and get over jet lag as flying from UK
Day 3: Pick up camper van Wednesday morning. Drive to Lake Tekapo. Stargaze
Day 4: drive to Mount Cook Village. Take helicopter ride to Tasman Glacier
Day 5: drive to Queenstown
Day 6-8: drive to Te Anau. Milford Sound scenic cruise
Day 7: drive to Wanaka
Day 8: drive to Fox Glacier
Day 9: drive to Hokitika
Day 10: Arthur’s Pass Village
Day 11: drop camper van back off in Christchurch before an afternoon flight to Wellington or Napier to visit family/friends
Would it be better to go anti-clockwise so we don’t hit Milford Sound on the weekend?
We’d love to go to Abel Tasman but don’t think we have the time plus we’ll be back to NZ in a few years so can always fly over to Nelson from the North Island. We’ve been to wineries in Martinborough so don’t feel like we will miss the Marlborough wineries
