My grandfather changed our last name to a guy he knew in the Army, how do I find him?

My grandfather was in the Army and when he got out of the Army, he changed our family name to a guys last name he had known. To our knowledge, he just did this because he didn't want to be associated with his family anymore, or be prejudiced by his ethic last name.

I think it would be really interesting to find this guy, who may not be alive, but maybe his children would be interested to know. My grandfather has passed.

Does anyone know the right way to go about this? Like getting his military records and possibly the people who were in his company, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
