A new venture by a Greek boutique hotel brand into the UK market has been announced, with its flagship site set to open in London’s Covent Garden next year. The establishment, Ergon House, will occupy a heritage-listed building on King Street that has been newly refurbished. This marks the brand’s initial foray into the UK and its first establishment outside of Greece.

The hotel is set to feature more than 20 bedrooms, combining living spaces, restaurant areas, and culinary experiences within a Mediterranean-inspired ambiance. Among its highlights will be a rooftop restaurant accompanied by an al fresco terrace, along with an Agora marketplace. This marketplace will host a variety of vendors, including bakers, butchers, fishmongers, and greengrocers, who will offer farm-to-table products to guests.

The project, which involves transforming the space previously occupied by the Carluccio’s restaurant into the new hotel, is a collaboration with Shaftesbury Capital. Ergon House is part of a larger portfolio that includes 25 company-owned and franchised Mediterranean delis, restaurants, markets, and hotels located in Greece, the UK, Cyprus, and the Middle East. Following the opening of the London hotel, the brand aims to continue expanding its presence across Europe.

Thomas Douzis, the founder and CEO of Ergon, expressed that the opening of Ergon House Covent Garden is a crucial milestone for the brand. He highlighted the strategic choice of Covent Garden for their UK debut, citing the area’s well-established reputation in retail and food & beverage, as well as its appeal to both local and international visitors and its rich cultural backdrop. Douzis looks forward to integrating the brand into the West End.

Michelle McGrath, executive director at Shaftesbury Capital, also shared her thoughts on the addition of the boutique hotel to Covent Garden. She believes that the hotel will enhance the area’s offerings by providing a unique blend of high-end hospitality experiences. The new rooftop restaurant and terrace are expected to offer a distinct and premium experience that distinguishes the district from other destinations.
