Where can grandma and 16m go to have fun in the USA?

My 62f friend has a 16 year old son that are thinking about taking a trip before both get too old for each other. The boy wants to be able to do things with her but she isn’t able to really do what he wants- like- he wants to go skiing. She’s never skied in her life and has bad knees. She doesn’t do watersides or coasters and he doesn’t want her to go to an amusement park just to watch him ride the rides. Neither are interested in a cruise, hiking, or camping. They live by the beach and want something different. Also they’re BOTH nitpicky and cynical so probably no tourist towns. I’m pretty much at a loss and want to help prevent lost chances and tons of regret! Please, what can they do, where can they possibly go?
