South Park: Snow Day brings back the familiar faces of Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, but this game abandons the previous RPG-style mechanics for a cooperative 3D hack-and-slash adventure. The combat is enhanced with card-based leveling, and there are plenty of perks to upgrade. Here we provide the best tips and tricks to help you find success in South Park: Snow Day.

Choose your cards wisely

Each chapter features upgradeable ability cards that you collect as you play. These grant you passive benefits that add a unique feel to each playthrough, but then you lose the cards once you finish the mission, giving the game a slightly roguelike feel.

This game features four-player co-op, so you'll want to talk about playstyles with your teammates. If you want to be the aggro damage dealer, there are cards specifically for you, but make sure someone in your party chooses cards geared around healing.

If you're playing solo, I highly recommend cards geared toward healing, especially when you're just getting started. You're given three AI teammates, and they're not always efficient at staying alive or reviving you. It's best to play the healer role yourself.

I liked starting my solo playthrough with the healing totem equipped, and then I would hope for cards that increased its usefulness. These cards include abilities such as enabling the totem to revive downed teammates, increasing its area of effect, and allowing you to deal damage to enemies near it.

Don't forget to upgrade your cards

At each stage of every chapter, you'll have an opportunity to interact with Jimmy to select an additional card for your fight. You'll want to check how much TP you have before hastily selecting a card, because you can use the rolls to pay for the upgrade costs to increase the rarity of the card, and thus the benefits. There were many times I forgot and eagerly selected a card and missed my opportunity, and there's no sense hoarding TP because it doesn't carry over to the next chapter.

Scavenge lots of TP

Toilet Paper can be scavenged from various containers in each chapter. Hit all the trash cans, storage tubs, and other containers you find. This might seem tedious, but you'll want to collect tons of TP for your upgrades for each stage. Leaving a few trash cans unsearched could mean the difference in whether or not you have enough rolls to fully upgrade the card you want to the highest rarity.

You need tons of Dark Matter

Dark Matter is an additional game currency that you'll earn, and this is even more valuable than the toilet paper. Dark Matter is how you unlock perks to upgrade your character, which include various options for better healing, more damage dealing, increased stamina, and such.

Dark Matter can be found in several ways. This includes scavenging common containers like trash cans, the purple Dark Matter chests, looting from fallen enemies, and even absorbing from puddles of Dark Matter on the ground.

The perk upgrades gradually get more expensive as you work your way through the chart, so this can be quite a grind to level up your character to tackle those harder chapter difficulties.

Chapter 2 is one of the best missions to replay for farming Dark Matter, as the rooftop stage of the mission has several of the purple chests, plus you'll still be collecting small amounts of it through random looting and combat.

Fire all the cannons

Each chapter also has one or more cannons, and cannonballs can always be found nearby. These are worth completing for each chapter because you can get a ton of resources, including TP, the Dark Matter currency, and more card upgrades.

Anytime you stumble on a cannonball, assume there's a cannon nearby and grab it. You're always aiming at the big domes of ice on the map, and they have a distinct blue glow as shown in the screenshot above.

Find Henrietta for more bonuses

South Park's resident "goth girl" Henrietta can be found at various points during your playthroughs. She'll offer you three cards at random, and you can pick the one that best fits your mission or current goals. Sometimes this will be a beneficial upgrade to your current cards, extra TP rolls, or Dark Matter. The extra Dark Matter is a better pick for replays where you're just trying to hoard the resource to purchase your next perk, and in earlier playthroughs you'll likely want something that will make you more powerful during that specific mission.

You'll want to visit Henrietta every chance you get, and she can sometimes be sneaky to find. Here we have a full guide to all of Henrietta's known locations.

Be a good teammate

Whether you're playing with friends or AI companions, you'll want to be a team player and revive downed teammates. AI teammates can get stuck in weird places or all get wiped at once, but as frustrating as it is, your odds are still better if you revive them. Surviving these chapters on even normal difficulty can feel brutal at times.
