As anticipation mounts, Sarawak is gearing up to showcase its business events sector at IMEX Frankfurt in Germany from May 14-16, 2024. The delegation is set to introduce cutting-edge solutions aimed at establishing Sarawak as a leading, influential business events hub within the ASEAN region.

The theme of this year’s IMEX is ‘Impact,’ focusing on uniting the international events community to foster business relationships and develop strategies addressing major global challenges affecting society and the environment. Sarawak aligns perfectly with this goal, as its exhibit, themed ‘Business Events Support Community Development,’ highlights the industry’s commitment to spearheading social and economic advancements through business gatherings.

Discussions at the Sarawak Pavilion will center around the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, the enduring effects of business events on legacies, and the International Journal on Business Events and Legacies (IJBEL). The tradeshow will also see the launch of IJBEL Volume 2 Issue 2, which delves into sustainability issues that are crucial to the global industry’s focus on eco-friendly meetings.

“IMEX Frankfurt is a prominent trade show to promote Sarawak as a business events destination and make us recognisable and identifiable to the world. IMEX has the right audience of business event planners who are prioritising solutions for environmental, social, and governance issues; Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 can contribute to their mission,” says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. “At the same time, exhibiting at IMEX Frankfurt presents a strong opportunity to attract the international corporate meetings and incentives market by showcasing our culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals (CANFF).”

BESarawak, the pavilion organizer, is collaborating with the Culinary Heritage & Arts Society (CHASS), the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Kuching Creative City of Gastronomy, and food service provider, The Bibber’s Tale. This partnership aims to demonstrate how business events can enhance creative sectors. The pavilion will offer an intriguing glimpse into the culinary arts, showcasing innovative ways of merging Sarawak’s native ingredients to forge exciting new tastes.

As Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, explains: “The Sarawak pavilion is a strategic decision to gather valuable market insights and continue building our status as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo. Sarawak’s strong presence on the show floor is a powerful tool to be recognisable and identifiable while reinforcing that business events hosted in Sarawak can, and will, make a huge impact on the society and economy.”

Visitors to IMEX Frankfurt are invited to enjoy the cultural and culinary delights at the Sarawak pavilion, located at stand A200, and connect with this year’s co-exhibitors:

  • Business Events Sarawak (Convention Bureau)
  • Borneo Adventure (Destination Management Company)

  • Cat City Holidays (Destination Management Company)
  • Hemisphere Hospitality (Hospitality and Tourism Services Provider)

The event will be held at the Messe Frankfurt, renowned as one of Europe’s largest and most technologically advanced venues. Sarawak joins over 2,900 exhibitors in meeting more than 3,800 international decision-makers. In the previous year, IMEX Frankfurt drew over 11,000 attendees and facilitated more than 57,000 meetings, marking a significant opportunity for Sarawak’s presence at the event this year.
