Last year's May the 4th event in Fortnite was a doozy, with the event pass that allowed players to earn a free clonetrooper skin. But Epic Games has even bigger things in store for this year's May the 4th celebration, dropping free and paid Star Wars cosmetics in battle royale, Festival, and Rocket Racing, and kicking off its brand-new Star Wars-themed Lego Pass for Lego Fortnite that will run until late July. This event will start on the morning of Friday, May 3 and run until May 14.

Fortnite Lego Pass: Rebel Adventure

The centerpiece of this year's May the 4th celebration is in Lego Fortnite, where the Empire is about to invade everyone's worlds--players will need to do quests for the Rebel Alliance to help them beat back the evil interlopers and progress the all new Lego Pass, which will unlock a host of Star Wars-themed builds and decor items for Lego Fortnite based on that most wretched hive of scum and villainy: Mos Eisley.

Like the Avatar event pass and Festival Pass, there's a free track of items that you can earn just by playing the game, as well as a paid, premium track that has better stuff--including, in this case, a Chewbacca skin that you can use across the Fortnite ecosystem.

If you want Chewbacca but don't play Lego Fortnite, don't fret--the premium track of the Lego Pass only costs 1,400 V-Bucks, and you get the Chewbacca skin immediately without ever having to step foot in Lego Fortnite. Since he'd likely cost at least 1,500 in the item shop, that's not a bad value--the Lego stuff is basically just a bonus.

This Lego Pass will be available until July 23.

Lego Fortnite x Star Wars gameplay changes

As mentioned, Star Wars is going to have a major presence in Lego Fortnite, as the Empire will invade your Lego worlds and wreak havoc on the local ecosystem. But some of the Rebels will also be crashing nearby--help them build up their base by doing quests so you can expel the invaders.

You'll need to make use of Star Wars tools like macrobinoculars and lightsabers on your adventure--you unlock lightsabers by completing quests for the Rebel villagers. And you'll get a new Rebel Workbench, which you can use to craft iconic Star Wars weapons like the DL-44 blaster pistol, the Wookiee Bowcaster, and the Thermal Detonator grenade.

All of this stuff will persist beyond the May the 4th event, so don't worry if you're not able to get through all the content quickly.

New Star Wars Skins for May the 4th

Chewbacca is far from the only new Star Wars skin we're getting in this update, though, because there will be a huge amount of new Star Wars cosmetics available in the item shop. We'll start with the skins.

On top of our favorite wookiee, there will be three (3) new Star Wars skins available in the item shop -- Lando Calrissian, Dagobah Luke Skywalker, and the AWR Trooper (those "death troopers" from Rogue One). All of these will have Lego styles, of course.

Fortnite x Star Wars free battle royale cosmetic

The gameplay changes for this event aren't limited to Lego Fortnite--battle royale will be getting a Star Wars overhaul as well, with Darth Vader once again popping in for a tussle. He'll land in one of three potential landing places, as he originally did way back during the Vibin' season, and you can fight him for his lightsaber, which you can use to block incoming fire or throw at your enemies. There will be stormtrooper outposts all over as usual, along with their E-11 blaster rifles.

But there's a major new wrinkle here as well: Chewbacca is being held prisoner at one of the stormtrooper camps--which one it is will change each game--and if you rescue him, he'll owe you a life-debt and fight by your side until he dies or you do. And you'll also be able to find his trusty Wookiee Bowcaster from Imperial chests and from Chewie himself when you rescue him.

There will be quests related to all of this, with a free cosmetic as a reward: the AWR Trooper Pack back bling.

Rocket Racing's new Star Wars car

Rocket Racing is getting a new Beskar car inspired by Din Djarin's Mandalorian armor that you can purchase from the item shop. This thing comes bundled with four additional decals and accompanying wheels themed to other characters from the Star Wars TV universe, like Bo-Katan, Sabine Wren, the Armorer, and Boba Fett. This car and all its accessories will also be available to you in Rocket League after you buy them.

Fortnite May the 4th Free Rocket Racing Rewards

There is also a pair of Star Wars-themed decals for the Octane and a drift trail that you can earn for free by completing Star Wars quests in Rocket Racing. The first decal is based on Anakin's pod racer, and the second is based on Darth Maul, complete with adorable little horns. Like the Beskar car, these items are cross-compatible with Rocket League, so unlocking them in Fortnite will grant free access to them in Rocket League as well.

Fortnite Festival is also getting in on the Star Wars party, with the Cantina Band jam track--that iconic jazz song from the original movie--being available in the item shop, alongside the rather spectacular Endorian Drum Kit and the Nalargon Keytar musical instruments. Oh, but we've got free stuff here, too, with the Seven-string Hallikset Guitar that you can earn by completing Star Wars festival quests.
