Porto Alegre hotel, devastating fire,

A devastating fire at a Porto Alegre hotel killed 10 and injured 11, with most victims in critical condition.

An early morning blaze engulfed a modest hotel in Porto Alegre, located in southern Brazil, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 individuals and injuries to 11 others, according to officials.

The incident occurred before dawn in a three-story structure, marketed as budget accommodation for individuals. The building was operating without the necessary permits and did not have an emergency fire strategy, as reported by the Rio Grande do Sul state’s fire department on their social platforms.

A person who escaped the flames recounted to the local press that he fled his room around 2 a.m., navigating through smoke while the fire intensified nearby.

Authorities noted that out of the 11 people rescued, nine were admitted to the hospital, with five facing life-threatening conditions. Porto Alegre’s Mayor, Sebastião Melo, expressed on his social media that he is actively monitoring the ongoing investigation of the fire.

The establishment, known as Garoa Floresta, belongs to the Garoa chain, which owns around 10 small hotels in Porto Alegre. Notably, in 2022, another hotel from this chain experienced a fire, which resulted in one fatality and 11 injuries.
