On March 28th and 29th, 2024, the Radisson Hotel in Jaipur City Center hosted the notable GSTC Hotel Sustainability Training, designed specifically for industry professionals in India. This event represented the fifth joint training initiative between Agoda and GSTC, and the inaugural collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the US-Support for Economic Growth in Asia (US-SEGA) initiative. The training built on the foundation of successful prior sessions held in Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and India, which have already benefited more than 200 hotel operators.

Endorsed by the Rajasthan Government, the event featured GSTC Vice-Chair Mr. CB Ramkumar and Ms. Aditi Chanchani as co-trainer. Over two days, 54 attendees were educated on sustainable tourism practices.

“It is often said that when like minded people with common good intent come together, true impact will happen. That is what has now happened with this partnership: Agoda, USAID and GSTC. With passionate and energetic participation from all the participants, this training was a great start to the partnership. We look forward to furthering the impact in the coming months”, said Mr. Ramkumar.

True to Indian tradition, the training commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, a symbol of enlightenment and knowledge dissemination to the attendees.

Boratay Uysal, CSR & Sustainability Senior Manager of Agoda, shared, “At Agoda, we’re committed to advancing sustainable tourism through strategic partnerships. Our expanded collaboration with GSTC and USAID marks a pivotal step towards this shared vision. We are proud to inaugurate our partnership with this successful in-person training session in Jaipur, India, leveraging the momentum of the Ministry of Tourism’s Travel for LiFE movement, and aim to extend our insights to future sessions.“

The program aimed to equip participants with vital skills and knowledge about the GSTC Criteria, internationally recognized standards for sustainable tourism and travel. After completing the training, participants were awarded certificates, marking their readiness to lead sustainable practices within the tourism sector.
