Is Monty Python and The Holy Grail the only example of a parody being the best adaptation?

King Arthur is a character who's been adapted time and time again in every type of film from black and white to 80s epic to animated movie. And while there are some really good movies in there (Excalibur especially), it seems possible that Monty Python might have made the best movie out of all of them. Which calls to mind: has any other movie managed to be both a parody and the best onscreen version of a character?

I can't think of any other examples (maybe Lego Batman?) but it's such a weird phenomena, especially for such famous character, that I'm wondering if it's happened otherwise.
