ASM Global has secured a contract extension to manage the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) for an additional 10 years, continuing its role in the 25-year Public Private Partnership. This decision follows a highly positive evaluation of its performance over the past decade, during which it generated significant outcomes for both the Darling Harbour Live consortium and the New South Wales (NSW) Government.

Aimed at contributing $5 billion to the economy over the 25-year partnership, ICC Sydney has hosted 3,665 core events and attracted 6.4 million attendees, who have collectively spent A$3.9 billion locally in just under seven years.

Harvey Lister AM, Chairman and Chief Executive of ASM Global (APAC), expressed his pride in the management team’s accomplishments at ICC Sydney.

ASM Global (APAC) Chairman and Chief Executive, Harvey Lister AM said he is proud of the achievements of ICC Sydney’s management team.

“From the beginning, ASM Global’s bold aspiration was for ICC Sydney to be one of our signature convention, exhibition and entertainment centres.

“It is gratifying to see how ASM Global’s venue management framework has helped ICC Sydney drive economic contribution, exceeding the initial A$3.4 billion investment into the transformation of Darling Harbour. Despite the three COVID-19 pandemic impacted years, it is already closing in on the NSW Government’s target for the team to deliver A$5 billion in economic benefit over the 25-year period of the Public Private Partnership.

“It is with great delight that we celebrate 10 years of delivering extraordinary results at ICC Sydney across three years of pre-opening brand establishment, marketing, sales and operational planning, followed by seven years of eventful venue management. That’s 10 years of driving outcomes by making a difference for Sydney and New South Wales,” Lister said.

Since opening its doors in December 2016, the management team of ASM Global’s ICC Sydney has hosted over 500 events, attracting more than 500,000 international, 1.46 million interstate, and 4.42 million local attendees. During this period, ICC Sydney has consistently achieved client and delegate satisfaction ratings of 98% and 97% respectively, as evaluated by EY Sweeney. The venue also benefits from strong partnerships with Business Events Sydney and other marketing organizations, including Destination NSW and Tourism Australia.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO and Group Director – Convention Centres of ASM Global (APAC), highlighted the extensive economic impact of ICC Sydney, notably through its extended supply chain and contributions to regional NSW food and wine producers, as well as the creative arts and community sectors.

“ICC Sydney’s mission continues to be to make a difference for greater Sydney and NSW residents, visitors and businesses and our extensive calendar of events has already contributed to 7.22 million hotel room nights and the creation of 21,395 jobs in the local economy. The venue has also spent A$370 million with local suppliers, including A$65 million spent directly with NSW food and beverage suppliers,” Mr Donaghy said.

Looking forward, ICC Sydney’s schedule includes 1,126 planned events up to 2034, anticipated to attract an estimated 4.7 million attendees.

ICC Sydney was developed as a NSW Government project in collaboration with Darling Harbour Live, which includes partners such as Capella Capital, ASM Global, Lendlease, Hostplus, Aware Super, and Spotless.
