Road trip across the usa

So it's been a dream of mine to do this but thinking about I've come across some issues. First of all I was thinking to got from Texas to Montana but here are my concerns . How would I get a car ?(since I am from Europe I'd have to go there by plane and probably rent) Who is gonna even agree to give me a car for such a long time and such a big trip ? Should I rent a car the trip should bring me back to Texas again since I'd have to return it right? How much money would I need? What's the best route to take, that's more scenic? That's all
