Science fiction movies that actually deliver on a big concept?

I’m looking for science fiction movies that have a big, complicated idea that they actually deliver on, rather than hiding the ball and falling back on character drama.

If it’s a big budget production then I’ve probably seen it, I’m looking for mid budget productions. If aliens are included then even better! I wanna watch something weird and immersive.

Also I’ve seen every Dennis Villeneuve sci-fi so no need to recommend Arrival (just saying as that would be my go-to suggestion here)
